KNOW THE DIFFERENCE PCOD – PCOS

PCOD

(Polycystic Ovarian Disease) is a condition caused by hormonal imbalance and genetic factors. It results in the release of immature eggs, leading to cyst formation and enlarged ovaries. Symptoms include irregular periods, male pattern hair loss, abdominal weight gain, and sometimes infertility. While there is no cure, lifestyle changes are effective in managing PCOD. This includes exercise, a healthy diet low in sugars and carbs but high in protein and fiber. Medication and surgery may be needed in some cases. Specific symptoms like acne and hair loss can be treated by dermatologists. Fertility treatments may be necessary for those wanting to conceive.

PCOS

PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) shares symptoms with PCOD and can lead to complications like metabolic syndrome, sleep apnea, and increased risk of heart disease, strokes, and diabetes. Treatment typically involves oral contraceptives to regulate the menstrual cycle and manage symptoms. Additional medications may be prescribed for endometrial cancer prevention, diabetes control, acne, and skin issues. Lifestyle changes, including weight loss, are also important for effective management.
